We are pleased to inform you that there will be a minor release of MetaLib (Version 4.4) in September 2010. This release will include a capability for MetaLib customers to register for the Primo Central mega-index of scholarly materials, and will also include a number of enhancements which emerged from our collaboration with the MetaLib Primo Central partners.
To enable all MetaLib customers (in addition to Primo Central Partners) to start using Primo Central as early as possible, we have combined the next Service Pack with the approaching minor release. This will reduce your total effort and enable you to get working with Primo Central as soon as possible.
Primo Central offers a major step forward for MetaLib customers. The service will bring huge improvements to three significant aspects of the discovery experience:
· Scope of search – Primo Central searches hundreds of millions of items instantaneously —encompassing the majority of most institutions’ electronic resources
· Performance – Primo Central provides great search performance for MetaLib customers
· Ranking quality – Primo Central uses a single index (eliminating shallow ranking) with Primo’s outstanding ranking technology, and searches the full text of many Primo Central materials
